Dear Friends,
Every day, here at Union Mission of Roanoke Rapids, we meet men, women and children
whose lives are at stake. Some are at risk of succumbing to severe hunger and malnutrition.
Others have fallen victim to substances that are eating away at their bodies and souls. Still more
are in danger of losing their homes, with nowhere to go but the streets.
This year the Mission marks 60 years of bringing help and hope to folks like these—
battling hunger, homelessness and poverty throughout the Roanoke Valley. Last year alone we
provided 3000 nights of safe shelter for homeless men . . . served 14,852 meals to our hungry
neighbors . . . and distributed 2500 food boxes to families struggling keep food on the table and a
roof overhead.
Yet, while those statistics are easy to tally, it’s more difficult to quantify the enormous
impact of our education and referral programs, our Clothing and Thrift stores and our spiritual
outreach on the lives of those for whom every day is a battle to maintain their independence.
I hope you’ll take a few minutes to browse our new Web site and learn more about how
we’re touching the Roanoke Valley with love—and how you can help! We’re truly grateful for
every act of volunteering . . . of coordinating food or clothing drives . . . of remembering the
poor with financial gifts . . . and for faithful prayers on behalf of our Mission residents and
guests, and our staff and volunteers.
Through God’s grace—in our 60th year and for years to come—we’ll continue to meet
the physical, educational, emotional, physical, vocational and social needs so hurting individuals
may become fully functioning members of society.
In His service,
Rev. LaCount Anderson
